The Township encompasses 15,163 acres (23.69 square miles). The average elevation in Cranberry Township is 1,132 feet above sea level. Congressional District 3, the 12 th Pennsylvania Legislative District, 21 st Pennsylvania Senatorial District, and is served by the Seneca Valley School District.Ĭranberry is Butler County’s largest municipality. As a result, many residents commute into the city and Cranberry is often characterized as a suburb of Pittsburgh.Ĭranberry Township is situated within PennDOT District 10, U.S. Travel time between Cranberry and Pittsburgh is less than half an hour. Situated at the intersection of I-76 (the Pennsylvania Turnpike) I-79, and Routes 19 and 228, the community is easily accessible from virtually anywhere in the region.
One reason for Cranberry’s rapid growth has been its location. A smaller community with the same name is located in Venango County, immediately north of Butler County. The community’s name derives from the wild cranberries which formerly grew in the area.
